Hmmmmmmmm lets see 30 Amps x 220 Volts = 6600 Watts (thats at unity power factor)

Does the genset also have perhaps a 120 volt 20 amp recerptacle??? if so thats a source of energy available from the genny, but the genny still cant produce more then its rating, regardless which and how may receptacles it serves.

Im not sure about those "other 20 amps" You cant get anymore out of the receptacle then its source can generate, for example if you had a 100 amp receptacle supplied by a generator that could only produce 30 amps, you cant get 100 amps from it just becasue theres a 100 amp CAPACITY receptacle.

Also a 30 amp plug is no guarantee you can pull a full 30 amps from it...The plug is simply a passive connection device, it produses no energy and can only transfer/connect whatever the energy source (the genset) can produce.

Wanna re phrase your question ???

Hey John,

Playing the banjo hasn't hurt your math skills any. LOL

Right on with your answer. Sure would be nice if we sparkys could transfer our electrical knowledge by "osmosis". It would save a lot of typing. Seems there are SO MANY people who could benefit from a course on electrical theory.

Fireball, It is quite easy to get that other 20 amps. Put a turbo or superchager on your engine, then mess with the governor till the engine runs 6000 RPM or so, and you will get the other 20 amps, for a little while anyway. Seriously though, 220 volts at 30 amps, I think you are getting everything promised from that unit.

Hey there Ron, Yep "tricity" can be hard for the untrained but I dont hold it against anyone for not being up to par. If one doesnt have training and experience they cant be expected to be well versed in a fairly complicated subject. Heck I havent been trained in HVAC or Hydraulics or Landscaping or Carpentry and a tonnnnnnnn of other topics so they better not hold it against me for my ignorance in those areas lol Also although I have tried, its just IMPOSSIBLE to explain here in a paragraph what can take books and entire library volumes and years of study and experience to fully master although untrained Billy Bob and Bubba who wired their own homes sure think they can lol lol

Take care Ron, fun chat

Never wrong to ask a question, just be ready for the
humility of the answers.
