I am looking at purchasing a Case 400 diesel. It needs a different engine put in it. Does anyone know what engines that Case made would bolt into a 400. I was thinking that a 730 might but was not sure.
Thanks |

730 or 830 engine should bolt right in, but the oil filter will interfere with the steering shaft.
DO NOT put the 400 oil filter on the 730/830 engine, make a spacer for between the filter base and the block and use the 730/830 filter.
Don't ask me how I know. |

What is wrong with the original engine? May be cheaper to fix that then buy another. |

The engine does not have heads, and has sat for 10 years with out
them. After sitting for the 10 years it is going to need a conplete
overhaul, plus the injector pump worked on. |

Don't throw the old 400 engine and parts away. I'm sure someone on here could use them. |

A 700 or 800 engine will work as well. |

I don't know what you have local but a 900/930 chain drive has the same heads as do the 500/600/700/800. I rebuilt my diesel a couple years ago for about $1200 complete with minor pump and injector work. |
