2000 vs 3000

Just wondering.

Seems 2000 3000 3 -cyl gassers are same except various transmission configurations/live PTO. Same size motor. Why is 3000 more H.P.? Governor?

What makes the 3000 stronger/different?

Is hydraulic pump different.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry I am ignorant on wrenching these.

3000 has a larger displacement engine that gives it about 8 hp more. Other than that they"re much the same.

Rod,
This has been discussed here before.
On the diesels yes - 158 vs 175 ci.
The 2/3000 gassers use the same 158 ci engine.
As best I can remember the 3000 is governed about 200 rpm faster and possibly larger jetting in the carb.
As for differences between the two models there were more of them between the early and late models.
Early 3000 had heavier front bolster, center axle and knees. 3000 had heavier square rear axles vs round on 2000. Could not get differential lock on round axles.
Later model 2/3000 were so much alike that I don't know why they bothered making the two of them

They were both available with the 4 speed, 6 speed, 8 speed, manual reversing and S-O-S transmissions, and the 6 & 8 speeds and the manual reverser could be had with live or trans driven PTO, and the S-O-S was always independent PTO, but could be single speed 540rpm, or 540/1000/ground speed, and the 4 speed was always trans PTO. The only difference was the 3000 series (usually 3400/3500/3550 models) could be had with the Torque Converter Auto Reversing transmission, and none of the 2000 series models could.

As for the hp difference, the gassers had 2 different size main jets, and the top rpm was a little higher on the 3000. And the 3000 diesels had the larger displacement engines and the injector pumps were different between them as well, even the CAV pump for the 3000 was a different pump than the 2000 pump, and a lot of the 3000's had the Simms pump, while none of the 2000's did.

From what I can glean from the New Holland parts web site, the 2000 was available with either a 4.3gpm or a 5.3gpm hydraulic pump, but the 3000 always had the 5.3gpm pump. I'm not sure which 2000's got the smaller pump, or why, but according to the parts site both were used.
