My father purchased a new 1950 Ferguson TO-20 new and he past away 22 years ago. I now have the tractor and the original manual. Just wondering what the tractor cost new?
Hope someone can help.
Thanks

I have a Dealer"s invoice from March 1949 that has the TE-20 priced at $1305.00 to the dealership. |

So the $1300 in '49 translates into about 8 months wages for a skilled craftsman or 'professional' working in a good company/shop???? IIRC a new Chevy or Ford in 49 was about $900-$1200. |

According to "Ferguson Implements and Accessories" by John Farnworth, the new prices in the UK, FOB ex works, were as follows.
I located a 1950 exchange rate for the UK£ to US$ of US$1.00 = UK£0.3508 (approx £0-7-0 or 7/-). UK£ value converted to US$ shown in brackets.
Ferguson Brown June 1939:
Tractor with hydraulic unit and 10 in spudded wheels £198-0-0 ($564)
Tractor with hyrdaulic unit and pneumatic tyres £238-0-0 ($678)
TE20 Ferguson November 1946:
Tractor, TE type with Continental engine £343-0-0 ($977)
Ferguson early models:
TE-A-20 tractor £325-0-0 ($926)
TE-D-20 tractor £335-0-0 ($955)
TE-C-20 tractor £360-0-0 ($1,026)
TE-E-20 tractor £370-0-0 ($1,055)
Ferguson June 1954:
TE-A-20 tractor £395-0-0 ($1,126)
TE-D-20 tractor £405-0-0 ($1,155)
TE-C-20 tractor £435-0-0 ($1,240)
TE-F-20 tractor £525-0-0 ($1,497)
Hope that helps?
Trivia of course, but I wonder why Ferguson in the US never offered a diesel engine option? Possibly because gasoline was far cheaper in the USA, unlike the UK and Australia?
