I gave up on trading my Case 5230 for the Farmall 95 as the farmall being too small for haying. What are your thoughts on a 2009 JD 6140D MFWD in comparison with the Case 5230? Looks to be close in size and power. Just looking for thoughts on the 6140D tractor, good or bad. Thanks - Bob

What is wrong with the 5230? They are a pretty solid tractor.

Nothing wrong with it. It has 6400 hours and I was just wanting to trade up. It has sure been a good tractor. Bob

By the way, the 6140D has a JD 673 loader. My 5230 has a GB 660 loader. Just curious if anyone has had much experience with the JD. Thanks

I would keep the 5230 unless I could trade up to a 6020 or 30 series Deere. I have an uncle with a D and E series tractor. They work great but they are put together pretty cheesey compared to what you are used to. I've got a 5130 mfwd with 9700 hrs, so your rig probably has a lot of life left. We bought a 6410 with power quad to replace it, but haven't sold the case yet. Having been raised on waterloo Built tractors, it's hard to look at any of these lightweight utilities, and feel like you have much. I gave up nearly a ton of weight with the 6000 series deere vs the maxxum.

I would go with Craig C's advice. Get a 6020 or 30 series. The D series have the cheaper 5000 series cab on it. To me its not something you want to spend all day in working. They are a cheap tractor so someone can say they have a john deere. Just my two cents worth.

Even if it is a Case engine coupled to a David Brown transmission?
