I purchased a wd 45 and it has a 8 volt battery in the tractor. Can I use a 12 volt charger on this battery also is it safe to jump start with a 12 volt system?

I have a WD with an 8 volt battery in it (for a 6 volt system). It's nice for the extra umpf to crank with. However, that being said, I would say DO NOT try and jump it with a 12 volt system and DO NOT use a 12 volt charger on it. I don't even suggest trying a 6 volt charger on an 8 volt battery. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but you could overheat the battery or worse.

An 8 volt battery is a band aid fix for other problems. Either fix the problems or switch to 12 volts and be done with it. Jumping or charging with 12 volts can lead to a battery exploding in your face or an over charge battery

8 volt battery is a tough one. Some do momentarily jumper to 12 v battery but it is not recommended. The best choice is a 6v battery with the highest CCA and heavy duty cables. I bought mine at NAPA. Second choice is convert to 12v.

I use a 12volt charger with LOW amp setting, 2amps. Works for me. Cannot advise on 12 volt jump start.

Fix the system. Don't need an odd ball battery. Or go to 12 volt, but still, fix the system.

6V started my WD-45 with a D-17 Power Kit in it for years...cranked slow, but worked..
There is no reason a 6V battery should not SPIN a WD engine..
12V IS an easy conversion though and is very much more handy to jump other vehicles with..

Ron..
