Got a M with a 301 combine motor in it. The motor runs great but put it on the dyno the other day and it only made 60hp was wondering why and anybody have any answers.

Need more info really. Was it running good or smoking black and missing? Alot of blow by or none? Stock setup? More info needed. Post a pic while your at that sounds like a cool tractor.

It did run good. It had no blow by. And it is just a stock 301 combine motor as far as we know.

Did you get the tractor from a guy in Lynn IN? I seen it on eBay. Im from that area.

Was that at rated PTO speed? I could be wrong, but at 1450 RPM (M pto speed) a 301 may only make 60 hp. What's rated engine speed for a 301, about 2400?

yes it was. yes a 301 was rated at 2400.

To see 2400 on the engine, you need to turn the pto shaft on the m at about 890 rpm. Use the 1000 scale and a slide rule on an M&W dyno to figure your hp. I bet you like the new number better.
