i just purchased a john deere 1010w with a gas engine. somehow water got into the upper end of the engine, froze and cracked the exhaust manifold and has probably done other damage. engine is frozen. don"t know if i should rebuild this one or find a decent used engine. i"ve been told some combine engines will fit this tractor. is that true? any advice will be appreciated.
thanks

The 40 square back combines used the same moter as a 1010. I was told that you can also use a 2010 engine out of a 45 combine(but I do not know for sure)

The 2010 gasser deck plate/sleeves and pistons are a drop in upgrade .
What serial number? There are two distinct versions of the 1010.

thanks for the replies fellas. the serial # on this unit is 19574. i believe it is a '61 model. this is the yellow industrial model with the solid non-adjustable front axle.
