i havent worked on many ford tractors. but how do i get the engine on tdc? i dont see any cover to take off the clutch houseing or any markings on front pulley? im replaceing head gasket. i also need to know the sequence of setting the valve lash as to which order i do them? our local store does not have a shop book on this tractor and the customer needs the tractor asap. so no time to order one. pls help. thanks. jc

If you've got the injectors removed... I just knock the flux off a welding rod and drop it in the hole... roll the engine over until it's on TDC. Watch valve movement to see when you're on the compression stroke. With the injectors in place you can often find TDC by feeling the resistance to turning and when it hops past... back it up a bit, then roll it ahead to TDC again.
Of greater concern to me would be the torque sequence for the head bolts. The diagram would be most helpfull. IIRC you would start on the middle bolts between 3 and 4 then work in a circling x pattern moving out as you go. I think this was done in 2 stages. One at 90 and the final at 105-110.
I'd also make a point of chasing the bolt holes with a bottoming tap and cleaning them out well...
Also have the head checked for flatness... and the block deck if possible. Grinding, or at least lapping the valves wouldn't be a bad idea either depending on how they look.

the ford dealer told me the head tourque was 120 then 160 flbs. are they wrong?

Depends on the bolt size... What I gave is for a 1/2" bolt.
If the dealer looked it up in a manual I'd go with that.

110# for 1/2" bolts, and 160# for 9/16" bolts.
