2010 power steering problem

Hello, I have a 1961 2010 with a power steering problem. I have powersteering to the left but nothing to the right. I"ve changed the powersteering gear houseing at the bottom of the steering collum and no difference. I also have can"t lift the 3 point hitch but what I understand the steering takes perferance over the 3 point hitch. Anybody have or have had the same problem. I am about stumped with this one . Thanks

Have you checked & cleaned the trans sump screen???

Is right, clean the filter, it is starving the pump of oil and causing the pump to heat up. The filter contains a micro screen and it has to be cleaned with something that will dissolve the coating on the screen not just washed in gas and say good enough. Stand it on end and pour full of oil, if it is slow running out, it is not clean ! It would also be a good time to flush the transmission case and change the oil.

after cleaning the screen fill with JD fluid. i used universal fluid once and BIG MISTAKE

I didn't clean the filter yet.I was told that the filter was new when we bought the tractor. What fluid could I use to flush the system and what would be the best way to do it? That might be a really good idea to go with. I bought this thing thinking it might be an easy fix or just use the tractor for parts. It's a nice tractor but may be a problem child. Another thing to check is the proportioning valve you mentioned. If the transmission case cover has been off and put back on with globs of silicone hanging out, on the out side of the case, their is a good chance that a piece from the inside has made its way past the filter, through the pump and is plugging up the system some where. Look in round hole of bell housing rt side, their should be a cover with two bolts, on the front of the transmission case, right behind the hyd line. Look at the JD part catalog, search 2010, sec 689, sec 70, item 5 shows a break down of the valve. Any blockage in the holes of the valve will cause the problem you have.. Pull the coil wire and roll over the engine to flush out the passages to the valve bore, before reinstalling the valve. Post back if you need more. Let us know how you make out.

Fantatstic I'll check that,cause there is silicone on top of the transmission cover and anywhere else that was taken apart. Would you leave the regular hyrdraulic fluid in it to flush that out? Thanks again, Mike

I drain the fluid and just pour some diesel or kerosene into the cavity to get the grunge out of the bottom of the cavity. What type of fluid you use is up to you, I used a universal fluid that meets the JD spec., there is always fluid left in the power steering system and else where that mixes with the new fluid. To make reinstalling the cover on the valve easier, substitute all thread about 3 " long, double nut the end to seat it tight in the hole. It's a really tight space to work in trying to get bolts started with the spring pushing back..
