I blew rear tire Saturday. I started calling for prices here locally.Prices on 13.6x38 run from $496 to 675. All have to be ordered and trucked in on next delivery. One dealer said he can provide a foriegn tire for $100 or so less but has to get me price.Tubes start at $75 and dry installation is $25 to 45. First time I have had to buy tires. Are these the prices that we are up against now?

I think the tire prices have doubled in the last 10 years.

Sounds about right. Maybe about 10% high from what I have seen. I install my own tires so I can't really say what installation would be.

Yes, I would consider $496 cheap. You can save a little money with 12.4's because 13.6's are not needed on a SH. Also you need 6 plies.

Thats about it, 3 or 4 years ago I put Titan 14.9's on my SMD, they rang in around $1050/1100 and I drove 5 hours to get them. Everyone else wanted $1400 for the pair. Mounted them myself.

Eastern Iowa, I am going to pull those tires this winter, clean and paint rims, then put new tires on in the spring.

Yup, as oil goes up, tire prices go up.

Then when oil comes down, tire prices stay the same because people avoided buying tires when the price went up, and the dealers are stuck with warehouses full of overpriced tires, and they need $$$ to keep the lights on.

Then when oil goes back up again, tire prices go up even more.

thats not that bad, expensive yes, but here in NY I was quoted $800-$900 for 4/6 ply firestones and around $500-$700 for 8 ply imports and thats without tubes and install. I dont want to see what prices are in another 5-10 years

Yep, I have a pair of Firestones on a SMTA that I paid 490 dollars for in 2004. That's for the PAIR (13.6)

Those prices sound about right these days, unfortunately.

I was looking for the same tire last summer. The local Firestone dealer quoted me $975 installed but couldn"t tell me how long it would take them to find one. The same Firestone dealer had replaced my other rear tire 16 years ago for less than $500, and that included some required welding repair of the rim. So I decided to go with another tire place 25 miles away, for $650 installed.

They came to my place while I was at work and installed the new tire. When I got home, I found the new tire was labeled "13.6/12 x 38" and it"s noticeably narrower than the Firestone tire, which was labeled 13.6 x 38. But they both are the same height, and it"s worked fine for me so far. I only use my tractor to push snow in the winter and pull a bushhog to mow horse pastures in the summer.
