Just wondering if you need to re-polarize the generator if you put a new battery on? The tractor had been sitting for the last year without a battery.

I agree with Ted. But if you hook the battery up right there shouldn't be a need for that. If it wasn't running the polarity should be the same as the last time it was used.

Any time the charging system has be "opened up" for any amount of time it is wise to polarize the genny before firing it up
