I am using a 1993 JD 348 square baler. Since it was new the feed auger has made a loud growling sound at times - almost sounds like rattling sheet metal or shafts rubbing. Everone who has had a 348 has told me that this goes on with several of them. Auger bearings are changed, but the sound still remains. Anyone out there had the same problem? Baler functions fine, but gets very annoying with noise. What else can be done to fix the problem? My older 336 has never done this thing before. Thanks!

Whats your balers SN? Is wooden block intact and not excessively worn?

I have a JD 328 about 1990 which I bought last summer from an estate which bought it new and had not been used for many years. I have ahd the same noise just happen every so often and would come and go for no reason. I used it last month to bale a few bales of hay and this time no noise. Still wondering what causes that from the auger area.

Wooden block has been replaced and still does not change anything with the noise. Anyone else still have a suggestion as to what could be wrong?

Drill a hole for grease zerk so you can give the wood block a shot of grease. Problem solved.
