|
|
I am going to look at a 450 tomorrow. Knowing that a 450 is over 50 years old how can I identify a 450 block and head so that I know a M or 400 motor is not in it.
For that matter how can I be sure it is a 450 and not a painted up 400 other than by serial tag.
Thanks Mark |

A 450 will have C281 stamped on the distributor side, near the head, on the left side of the block. Not sure how to ID a head when its in the tractor. A 400 is a C264 (same as super M engine) an M engine will not have the cubic inch stamped on the block. |

A 450 block will have c-281 stamped into the block. take the hood off and look at the head. a 450 head will not have a ventilation tube comming out of the back (gas tank side) that goes to a fitting in the air cleaner. If it has that vent tube, chances are its an M head...thats about all I know though, best of luck, I want a 450 so bad but here in NY they are scarce. ~Anthony |
