|
|
Hey guys I need some more expert advice. In the process of stripping cleaning and painting my 53 Jubilee I removed the hyd pump. Everything seemed fine when I started the tractor my hydraulics worked fine. Good lift no noise but now it seems there is a leak in the pump. I'm getting fluid leaking past where the pump mounts to the housing. Could this be a shaft seal leak? I've had no experince working on these pumps so I have no idea how technical this may be so any advice is greatly appreciated. The pump has a round housing so I'm assuming it is the piston style pump. Thanks again.

If its a round pump, its a piston pump.
You say "fluid leaking past where the pump mounts to the housing"
Do you mean where the pump mounts to the engine block? Did you replace the gasket there? A leak there is usually engine oil that gets spun up by the gears and past a bad gasket. Easy fix.
A seal leak is usually not visible from the outside. I leaks by pulling air into the pump and causing all kind of erratic lift issues. |

BKL,
I would say if the pump works fine, the oil is engine oil not hyd oil. If the pump's seal were leaking, you would loose prime very quickly.

Yes, I meant engine block. That is exactly where it appears to be leaking from. I did change the gasket but the replacment was a very thin poor looking gasket. I have some good gasket material and I'll make another and try that. Thanks again for all the help. I really appreciate it.

Mine leaked a bit last time I had the pump off. I had to torque down on the bolts a bit more than I liked, but that stopped it. If you replace the gasket, don't use much thicker gasket paper, it will affect the way the gears mesh. |

don't get crazy with too thick a gasket.. I'd make another paper one and permatex it... |

You guys were right, I made a new gasket, not to thick just better material, some permagasket and a little more torque and that was it. Simple fix. This is a new tractor for me so I don't know too much about the hydraulics and I was a little nervous. I used to have a 48 8N but when I picked up the Jubilee I sold it. I'v been working on the Jubilee for about 8 months to get her cleaned up and running and I just now took her out and cut my pasture and dragged a harrow around. Love it already I think she'll be a good tractor. Thanks again for all the advice.

When the gasket on my jubilee leaked, I had to put a thin coat of silicone on both sides of my gasket to stop it. |

Still have a broken bolt on mine that I need to tap out. Will be getting better grade of replacements when I get to it this winter.
2 Questions..
1, what grade bolts do you guys recommend?
2, Type or brand of gasket material do you all prefer for this thin of an application.
As always, Thanks in advance. |
