NI-CD Charger Work for NI-MH?

Anyone know if a Hitachi 12V charger for their NICD batteries will work for replacement NiMH batteries?

Destroyed some Handi-talkie batteries that way. Ni-MH batteries don't take well to Ni-Cd charging equipment. Best get the proper charger, especially considering the cost of those batteries.

I use 18v dewalt batteries. When I switched to Ni-MH, I had to get a new charger. The new charger is for all 3 types of batteries, Li-ion, Ni-MH, and Ni-Cd.

I don't know about Hitachi but I have one of those chargers made for AAA through 9V batteries and it has two settings on it, one for NI-CD and one for NI-MH batteries. In the instructions it says you can severely damage the batteries if you don't have the setting set up for the type of batteries you are charging.

I have a Hitachi 14.4 volt cordless drill that came with NiCd batteries. I replaced the nicad with NimH about a year ago and am using the original charger. The place I bought the battery from said it was compatible. That has been my experience so far. NimH beats the nicads hands down. I will not buy another tool with nicads.
