|

I have a 1955 Fordson Major Diesel. At start up, it smokes white smoke until it gets to operating temp. then the white smoke almost stops. It also idles extremely high. I checked the throttle to see if it was out of adjustment and it is not. It is something in the simms injector pump that is making it idle high. Any help would be appreciated. I have been told it may need to be timed, but I would need step by step directions on how to do that. Thanks!! Chris |

The white smoke sounds like water either in the fuel or a head gasket. As for the high idle it is probably the diaphram in the govener, its in front of the injector pump. I have one doing the same thing, havent got around to replacing it yet, so dont know what it entails. |

White smoke and high idle are a sign of too much air and not enough fuel. Start off by checking for intake air leaks,ie.intake hose from air cleaner, throttle shaft, air tubes from intake to injector pump can rust through and suck air.also as stated, the gov. diaphragm. |
