|
|
I have a few older tractors, sort of the standard garden variety. But after seeing a small tin sign at a flea market I have became intrigued by the 500 diesel. Can someone tell me about them. What options did they have? Was live pto an option? What about hydraulics and power steering. What was the horsepower? What do they sell for approx?
Thanks in advance. If there is any websites out there that may have some of this info I would appreciate it. |

Hi there, I can answer some of your questions on the Big Case 500 Diesel tractor. They came out in 1953 and orginally were the Case LA tractor. They used the Case LA bell housing on back and put a 377 cu. in., 6 cyl Case diesel engine in it. They had power steering available, hydraulics, I am not sure about the live PTO. They had 4 speeds forward. They had 30, 34, inch rear rims and rice rear tires that had a smaller rim and mor rubber on them. The tractor weighs around 6500 lbs. They are a real pleasure to drive. Some Farmers call them the Cadillac of tractors. I have a 1949 Case LA tractor and I had a 1952 Case 500 diesel tractor, but I sold this tractor, it had a spun rod bearing and I never got to fix the engine. I hope I was of some help to you. I have many other 1950's Case tractors. Let me know what you are thinking. Harold, 610-767-8370 in Penna. |

I have a '54 Case 500. It really is a nice tractor to operate and the diesel motor is low RPM and smooth running. It pulls a 5 bottom plow and has a lot of grunt. Fuel consumption is low for the work done. Mine doesn't have power steering which would be nice. It's not a nimble tractor but out in the field it rides smooth and turns easy. This 500 was used as a power source on a saw mill for years.
In one picture I'm running a gen set and then hooked to a old IH baler I used to have. Great tractor. PK |
