I"ve got a 2020 diesel that doesn"t change RPM. Throttle linkage is working as far as I can tell. It gets better the longer it runs but still won"t reach full throttle. For the first 5 minutes after you start it it is stuck at an idle. Fuel filter was changed this summer and it"s seen less than 10 hours since. I may change it again but I"m not leaning towards that.

What style injection pump? If it has a Stanadyne/Roosamster C pump - that's a common problem. Throttle uses rack and pinion gears for the trottle that get worn and stuck.

If you've got the other pump model - i.e. Standyne/Roosamaster DB/JDB - then a lack of throttle repsonse is probably due to air in the system or too much pressure inside the pump due to the exit-fuel sysem being clogged.

I'll have to look and check for sure which one it is. I'm not familiar with the differences but I'm sure I can figure it out. Is there a tag?

Looking at the post from toolz and your response there, I'm guessing I've got the C. My injector lines mount flat on the circle rather than "around" the pump, if that makes sense. My pump looks more like toolz's C.

Sounds as if you have a C type pump similar to photo.

If so, the gears are probably the problem. Common ailment on those pumps. If not done once already- you can take out the throttle pinion gear, flip it upside down and get another "lifetime" out of it. 15 minute job. If it HAS been flipped already - you need a new "rack and pinon" set of throttle gears. No longer available new except old stock somewhere - or used parts.

Thanks JD,

Would you be able to give further instructions on getting to that gear? I know you've worked on hundreds of these and this will be my first!

Thanks
