HI. Im trying to remove parts from a jd a tractor and I need some help. I need help getting the flywheel and block off. I cant get a wrench on the nuts on yhe flywheel and I have all the nuts removed from the block but cant budge it. Afraid to hit it to hard and brake it. Thank You for any help you can give. Its a mid 40's styled A. Thanks. Terry.

If you have dowels on that tractor they may be the problem. If you're using a suitable hoist to lift the engine you could sway the block from side to side easily so don't break anything. You also may need to support the rear of the tractor under the drawbar to keep it from flipping backwards once the engine is pulled. You may see a slight opening at the dowels from the swaying and you can use a pinch bar or big screwdriver to move the engine off the dowels. I would use lubri-plate on the dowels when reinstalling the engine. Hal

You will need a special flywheel wrench that fits behind the flywheel. E-bay usually had them. Or maybe a couple universal joints may work. On the block,make sure the oil line to the tappets is disconnected. Are the 4 bolts underneath out,and the ones on the side? Try a pry bar between the frame and the underside of the block to work it loose.A little PB Blaster may help. Ron Mn
