So who is looking for a new or updated work sled for around the farm this year ?
Last winter there wasn't enough snow to cover the hay stubble or for the groomed trails to open.
Looking at a 1999 Yamaha Venture Long Track with an aircooled engine. Looks ok for $1500 but needs a battery and the recoil start clutch dogs and springs repaired/replaced.
Guy that has it is not mechanically inclined and can't remember which way to turn the oil injector cap to loosen or tighten.
Sleds are going cheap but four wheelers prices are not dropping. |

Go on Kijiji London and look up snowmobiles...you may even find some in your area,I'm no expert but the way you described that Yamaha its too much money for what has to be done.
Elder Enterprises down at Hensall have lots of good used sleds..be a nice drive for you and the Misses.. |

I picked up a nice running Polaris Indy touring sled a few years ago, 1999 model for 900 from a dealer. It was a trade in. 1500 seems abit high.

Sold my sled years ago. Barely regret it. I don't know how one simple piece of equipment can chew up so much fuel and repairs.
I don't have cattle to check on though. If I did I'd be looking for a newer 4 stroke machine. |

Check with you local snowmobile clubs, they generaly replace their grooming machines every few years. These long and widetracks work great for deep snow and not needing speed. |

one of the Yooper's comedy sketches went something like "I had my new used snowmobile on the back of the pick-up when the neighbor walked by, he made three laps around the truck shaking his head and looks at me and says Geesh you got kids and cows and pigs and a wife what da heck do you need a snowmobile for ain't you got problems enough already?" |

Too much money for a 13 year old sled. One in good working condition would only be worth about $1k. I wouldn't give over $750 for one that old that needs work |

Canadian sled prices seem to be holding . Just checked a London kijijij listing in Clinton this morning for an 1983 340 Enticer long track. $1200 and if he doesn"t get at least a $1000 from me. Trappers up north will pay it.
Always stored indoors and looks very good. Wanted newer however. Last sled the kids beat to bits was also an 1983 Enticer but a short track.
Nice looking 97 Viking in Sudbury for $2300. There is a floatation machine that pulls other sleds out when stuck. |

The Yamaha doesn't look too bad in the picture. You don't really need a battery for a 500cc engine, a 10 year old could start it. Also consider that it has a new track. That's worth a bit of money as well. Here's a link to a cheap snowmobile. About half the money, but likely needs some work.

Get at least 1100 cc you never know when you may need to go 110 MPH. |

That price is on the high side. Three years ago I bought a 1997 Polaris Indy 500 for $665. Needed a seat cover, gas gauge and the carbs rebuilt. I also bought a 1998 Indy 500 for $900, needed nothing.
Keep looking, deals are out there....I bought the 1998 during Christmas shutdown, so the deals are there, even in the winter.
