On my 324 New Idea corn picker there is a clutch to stop the wagon elevator when turning around. It is not working. Is it supposed to stop the elevator when the rope pulls the arm to the forward position?
How to troubleshoot that? |

It will ratchet, not tug forward and stay there. You pullit and it returns to the back position, pull it and it returns to the back position. One pull puts it in gear, next pull putit out of gear, etc.
Often full of old dry grease, or corn debris, a good cleaning, see if the spring is good, and go from there.

Is the return spring pulling the lever back to the original back position when you let go? |
