Why do some 574 hoods have decals and some have the shiny metal strips? Have a pair of 73's ,one each way. |

Early 70's is when IH went from die-cast emblems to decals on their tractors. On their big tractors they waited for the new series to make the switch. 56 series had emblems up to 1971. 66 series had decals starting in late '71.
The 574 was made from 1970-1978 so they spanned the 56-66-86 series. IH probably put emblems on the early ones to match the 56 series, and switched to decals when the emblem supply ran out.
Betcha the one with emblems is an early '73 and the stickers is a mid to late '73 with a higher serial number. If not, then ya got me... |

That makes way too much sense. One Ser # is mid year and the other is toward the end of the run for "73. As many of them (574 & 674 ) are here in Middle Tn I had never seen the metal strip till this one. The number part of the badge is applied with an adhesive backing so it could have any number stuck on the end of the strip. Thanks. |
