The '68 4020 I'm working on has a small plastic oil line inside the right frame rail that goes from the front of the tractor back to near the brake valves. What would this be for? If it's factory, I'm surprised it's plastic. I need to repair it since it got cut up when the rods exited the block when the engine grenaded.

The line takes oil that leaks from a seal on the main hydraulic pump back to the resivoir / tranny . I think originally was steal or copper.

Thanks for the quick reply! Guess I'm not the only night-owl. If the line was steel or copper, I wouldn't have given it a thought, but being plastic, I thought it may have been added for some reason. Thanks again.

IIRC the line(parts ky #4 was plastic way back when I sold them new in the 70's-late80's. I don't remember it ever being steel but I'm old.

The seal drain line was originally steel, then went to a small plastic line ,,then in the mid 70"s Deere went to a larger plastic line that requires 2 adapter fittings (one on each end)

Couldn't find any 3/16 plastic line today, so I bought some 3/16 brake line and a couple of brass compression fittings to patch things up. There is obviously very little pressure, so I'm sure it will work. Maybe the steel line will hold up better during the next engine explosion!
