I'm no expert, but that looks like a Sherman overdrive to me.
If it is, push in the clutch, push it all the way forward and you'll have three forward speeds
plus one reverse controlled by the regular gear shift.
Push in the clutch, pull it all the way back and you have 3 + 1R more.
In the middle is neutral. Put it there you have no gears, no PTO and no hydraulics.
Your grandkids will put it there and make you think you have a bad clutch. (don't ask) |

I don't see anyway this tractor was made after 1945.
That's not to say the case might not have been swapped, but
the rest of it is not that new.

That is a date code. The 1 is actually the letter I. After about 1948 Ford quit using the letter I in date codes, but I've seen a few date codes using the letter I on early 8N's. Your date code I237 calls out the date September 23, 1947.
That combined with your serial number that you listed in another post confirms your engine is out of an 8N built in 1947. |

except for the engine the tractor is early 9N.
aluminum steering column, trans. cover, hyd. quadrant. snap in battery cover, no dipstick to check tranny oil level and of course the smooth hubs and a few other things.
there are good used rims for sale on ebay in iowa. about 1000 miles from me. long road trip mebbe ? gotta think about that one. |

Are the available rims 28" or 32"? I have one 32" rim and one center disk for 32" rim here. Cost of shipping might be the same as your 1000 round trip to get a pair. |
