OT - 5th Wheel Harness

After a recent mishap (more like a jinx by my dad), I"m going to put a 5th wheel light plug in the bed of my truck. I was just wondering if any of you have done this and if so, where did you locate the plug? I want to put it somewhere out of the way where it won"t get broken, but most of the out of the way places I can think of, I don"t know as I can get to for the installation. If you've got 'em pictures would be great!

I installed one on the left side of the box, about mid-way between the inner fender and the front of the box, and far enough above the floor to make it handy. Just about all trucks have enough space between the inner bed side and the outer body side to easily accomodate a trailer connector.

because 5th wheel trailers have electric brakes the harness is fairly large..all the ones i know of are mounted on a piece of angle fastened to the underside of the bed rail bout half way between wheel well and the front of bed

Depending on year/model of truck, the plug just plugs into existing wiring harness, usually under rear bumper.

That's what I'm doing. I found some plug and play kits that plug directly into the factory harness, and simply "T" off between the truck harness and standard receiver hitch light plug but they want $135 for it at the autoparts store or as low as $60 online, but I can set up my own to the same quality for about $40 by simply purchasing the components. I was going to put it up in front of the fender, as rustyfarmall mentioned, but looking at it last night, I think I'm going to locate it in the far back corner and as close to the bedrail as possible where it will be protected by the stake pocket because I have a toolbox in the bed and am afraid it will get tore up sliding objects over the fenders and under the toolbox (plywood, etc.). I'll post pictures of the finished product when I get it all done...whenever time may arise for that to happen, hopefully this weekend.
