FE-35 Wiring

This rewiring and alternator is driving me nuts. SOOO I believe I need a constant voltage on the "exciter" wire to make the alternator work. Is this correct ? The alternator is a delco with 3 wires.

As I have a standard diesel there is no oil pressure switch to hook the exciter wire to. Anyone have any other ways in which a 3 wire alternator can be hooked up on a standard diesel ?

Also the MF ignition switch I purchased seems to power on the Glow Plugs and starter at the same time. Is this the way it should be ?

Your switch is fine Allan, it's just more old fashioned that we'd expect to see. I suppose to restart a warm engine, you just turn the other way-down? To hit the starter directly.
As for your alernator, someone put that one on, since it isn't original, all bets are off. But yes, a jolt, 'excite the field' is maybe what it needs, but seriously if you have an old fashioned auto electric man around you, bring it to him, to check, shock, and hopefully make a diagram of how to wire the rest. I have seen these 3 wire jobs with one to ground, one to high use charge and the last to a low use, if the rest of the tractor is still wired as a Lucas, you need to reinvent the whole thing, or look for antoher generator. Can you take pictures and put them on here?
