installing sleeves

pulled out the worn .090 sleeves and purchased new sleeves,pistons etc from this site. Question, if i heat the block will the bore ID get larger or smaller with expansion? Thinking if they get larger and the sleeves are in freezer maybe I can get the new ones in by myself????? Thanks

boler 76........don't bother yer time with freezing. Gitta pound of DRY-ICE ($1, cheap) from the grocery store (yellow pages) Make a spool of 2-wooden roundy pieces, (they don't haffta be perfectly round, just the bottom on hassta fit thru the sleeve) and some 1/2" all-thread and 4-nuts. Fill the sleeve with chips of DRY-ICE and wait a couple of minutes. With GLOVED hands, slip the DRY-ICE cold sleeve down yer cylinder block. Now un-nut the bottom roundy piece and capture the DRY-ICE chips innna buckett and repeat fer the next sleeve and cylinder. Simple, eh? ........frosty Dell

Dell, I know dry ice is the answer, but I am 75 miles away from any dry ice supply!

boler76.........what? you want egg in yer beer??? .......sheesh, take a 3-hr break and drive to town, gitta COLD beer and couple of pounds of DRY-ICE in a foam cooler chest. Simple, eh? ........Dell

Efforts to install the sleeve without the proper tool or dry ice can colapse the sleeve going in. You can try the freezer first. Clean by honing the block to remove all grease etc.

Freezer over night will definitely make the job easier--been many many dropped in the freezer over night then drive in with a hammer hitting a piece of oak board across the top of the sleeve.

Forget the dry ice, I can't buy it here in my part of FL either. Watch the Old Hokies video and see how easy they drive.

Do it as in the old hookies vidieo. Then you know they have the right press fit. If you heat the block & cool the sleeves, how are you going to know how they fit as they may be too loose.
