Been looking at a couple of "C" models with the tricycle front but have noticed that some of them seem to have wider rear axles. Are some wider than others or is the mounting of the wheels that make it look wider ?
Also did they all have hand start with the electric also? I looked @ a 48 "C" that didnt have a hole for the hand start. Just thought that nose piece might be off of a later model ??

The C's are wider than the B's and as far as I know all the same width. I think there are some modified B's (which are narrower) that have a tricycle front ends. The tires/wheels on the C's can be mounted different ways for different width, but the castings are all the same width.

On the B and or C you can mount the rear wheels and centers in a number of ways so you can make them wider or narrower in the back. As for the crank handle hole if you look close I bet you will see it in fact has a knock out like an electrical box has that you could knock out so you could use the hand crank seen that on more then one over the years

a B is about 5 ft wide outside to outside the rear tires. You can make is several inches smaller or a foot bigger if you mount the tires different. Axle width is constant on all from 1938- 1958. All Bs have a wide front end.
a C is about 6 ft wide otuside to outside the rear tires. You can make that a few inches smaller, or a foot bigger if you rotate the rims and mount different. All Cs have the same rear axle width. The C was a 2 row crop tractor so a lot of them came with tricycle front end. You could get an adjustable box beam front axle if you paid extra. Probably 20% of them were made that way. Both tractors share the same transmission. belve gears, pto, torque tube, motor, radiator and hood.
