Would anyone have any experience with one of these style fans?
I bought this combine and it already had one of these installed. The air inlet shields are missing. It lets so much trash in it cloggs the return elevator.
I thought about putting some expanded metal above the fan to help keep it out.
Will this work. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I installed one on the 1480 and never had your problem. Believe there is a small shield from the original bladed fan still in place covering approx 1/2 of the exposed area forward of the discharge vent. The remainder of the top side is completely open. Always thought it would be real expensive if something like a dirt clod accidently dropped on that relatively large exposed area when it was running.

I am curious that your machine had any shields to begin with, if it was a Corn/Soybean combine they just had to have these anyway, adding new fan still would need these, if you didnt have them get some from a salvage yard, 1440/60/1640/60 should all fit. 80/88 will work except wider shield across bottom of fan housing.

Never seen that issue but have seen them fill up with bean fuzz before. Stainless blades and plastic seperators make it a big static electricity generator. Put a piece of small log chain on the rear axle and let it drag the ground to diffuse the buildup. As for the other what exactly are you finding in the return elevator? With the air flow difference between the old style and new stlye fans, the settings are different than the book will show.

If we run corn, there is to much corn leaves, silks etc. If We run beans, pods and dust. Combine is set by the book. Really doesn"t make much difference if we change the settings one way or the other I was wondering since the top of the fan was open, was it dragging this in.
Also I read where there is a cover you can install on the bottom under the combine, mine is open, could it be sucking it in from there as well? Thank you so much for your help.

The bottom is covered on the 1480 with the cross flow fan. However as mentioned the top isn't. This suggests that the bottom shouldn't be open on your 1460.
