Traded with a nice older gent from northern mn. My Case 870 gas I had and an IH 806 I had, paid $3200 for the 870 and $2250 for the 806, stuck about a grand into each. Turned out the 4480 had 1200 hours on a complete engine rebuild, and a recent transmission rebuild. Updated 134ac and new pump, New cab interior, 3pt, and PTO. I did most of my tillage this year and I had zero issues with it. Very happy I made the trade.

Nice looking rig Dave. I put a 3LM turbo on mine to try to cool the exhaust but no luck yet. Tom

Used to run a 4690 a lot and it always ran hot on
the pyrometer. Take the muffler off and put on a
straight pipe and your EGT problem will be solved.

nice to see you bought a real tractor, I really like the 4wheel steer and the 4490 is a nice tractor, keep the horsepower within 10% of factory and you won't have problems, if you are in 2nd or 3rd power shift speed always manually shift it back to 1, never depress the clutch and make it shift back, use Hytran Ultra and keep it and the filters serviced and don't down shift when slowing down with a load behind, thats what brakes are for, idle back through an intersection or to make a turn then shift back if needed when the load is applied, of course there isn't hardly an engine out there that makes torque like a 504 Case in thart engine size.Case still reccomends straight 30 weight oil in these engines.

4490's were a decent tractor, we had one when I was starting to farm. EGT's even with a straight pipe govern the speed. The 11 shank Soilsaver would work it to death, as did the 32' field cultivator.
We had to shift by EGT, not the power. It was a stock unit. So we were told. It was bought new.

Better to let everyone think you're an idiot than open your mouth and remove all doubt.
