1070 dosnt want to run

My 1070 I have been working with is acting up. I rebuilt the injection pump earlier in the year and it ran fine. Lately it seems that when it sits for a few days it doesnt want to start. I give it a shot of either and it fires right up and all seems fine. This past weekend It does not want to start it will run as long as I am giving it either but will not run. I removed the sediment bowl at the pump and fuel runs out at a very good pace. If I pump up the hand pump it will fire up and If I continue to pump it after Its running it will continue to run and sounds fine, but after a little bit it quits running again.

I am thinking its sucking air and loosing prime but when I remove the sediment bowl at the pump fuel runs freely. Does any one have any ideas where I should look?

the sediment bowl is the first place the fuel goes before the transfer pump, it is then pumped thru the first and second stage filters then to the injection pump, my guess is you have air/air leak at one of the filters, did you replace the filters at the time of the pump rebuild? did you get the rubber ring seal at the correct filter? and did you bleed air out of the filters completely? also did you leave the injector lines all loose at the injector set the throttle at full and crank engine till all air/air bubbles were out and you had a good stream of fuel flowing when cranking? then you tighten injector lines, these steps should purge any air you have trapped in the system, you can also do a further purge after tractor is running if it still sounds like it is missing a bit by cracking each line one at a time and make sure no air is still trapped, also it is a good idea to make sure you have the fuel shutoff cable set to aloow full fuel delivery and also check timimng to make sure you have it excactly on proper specs, sorry for the long post just hoping to make sure you have not missed some thing, one final thing is if you have any fuel leaking at all at a return line/connections it can allow air to renenter the syaytem after shutdown, I always like to replace every seal on the return when replacing injectors please let us know what you find cnt tom

I would check out the transfer pump as well. I've never run a 70 series that wouldn't prime right up once the filters were bled. If the filters had bad seals and the transfer pump was good you should get a leak when the tractor was running.

-Remove fuel line an make sure you have a full flow--let it run couple seconds. There is a pencil filter in fuel tank at outlet an after 50 so years there might be stuff in tank. If it slows remove it an clean or throw away. Screen will catch dirt anyway an filters will clean micro stuff from fuel

Sounds like transfer pump is bad.

Return line tee at pump has a check valve which can cause your problem. This tee is available cheaper from your pump shop rather than OEM.

Thanks for all the replys. I think I have narrowed it down to the transfer pump. I have good flow to the tansfer pump. I have replaced the filters and bled them all out. When I remove the line from the transfer pump to the filter there is no fuel being pumped when the engine is running, but If I hand pump it then fuel comes out.

I will talk with the injection pump guy tomorrow, I really dont want to take the pump off if I dont have too.

PS I wanted to use it for my plow day but it just didnt want to co-operate so it sat at home and the other trators got to plow more.
