farmall sloppy shifter fix

have a farmall 400 and would lock in gears. welded end. did not help much. saw this on ebay and installed. works the best. unbelievable difference. stainless steel. installs in 20 minutes. can put a helper on tractor now and not worry.

Jim, I can't see how that would help. Wear on the END of the shifter (where the shifter works the rails) is what causes the problem.

I put one in my 300 this summer and it was a whole new ball of wax, to mix metaphors. I really like the difference it made. Because of the shift lever being bent to the side it would twist when I tried to shift with the old (very worn) pin in there, now with the new parts it is easy to get in and out of gear. I had over 45 degrees of twist in the lever before, now there is very little to none. Probably would not make as much difference with an H or M because the shift lever is only bent front to back, not sideways, so it wouldn't be as prone to twisting while being shifted.

I did both, I had the end welded up to be 3/4" long, etc., plus I installed the sloppy Shifter fix. About 6 months ago. Just got in from discing up couple of acrees and brushing in some fescue with my H. Works great.

I put one of the sloppy shifter fixes in my I-6 last year. It made a world of difference!! And it's not just the worn end of the shifter that causes the problem. On mine, the pin that goes through the shifter was supposed to be 7/16 inch diameter. It was worn to less than 3/8 inch, plus the hole in the tower on the cover plate was wallowed out. The sloppy shifter fix took care of all those problems. I could not see much wear on the end of the shifter, possibly it had been repaired previously.

I used one of these last year on my I-6. Highly recommended. It sure took care of my problems! My shifter pin was worn to less than 3/8 inch diameter plus the hole in the tower on the tranny cover plate was wallowed out. The shifter fix took care of both problems.

Seems like so many want to fix the end of the lever and never take care of he other part of the problem which is worn pins, and wallowed out holes.

Yes, that looks like a good idea. building up the end of the lever is only half the fix if the pivot pin is worn. I've fixed lots of them by drilling out to 1/2 inch and making a new pin.
