I am a big fan of the 70 series. A youngster when introduced, worked at a dealer then, went to Case service schools, worked mostly on them as a private shop and also farm with them. One of my faves is the 1470 because here it was the mystery tractor. No one sold any around here. Because they are so different from the rest of the line-up and looked neat I always wanted to drive one. Never did until 2 yrs ago when I purchased one. I did not need this to farm but it was cheap HP and removed some burden from the 1370. I have not regretted that move. It is not a really comfy tractor to operate, the solid steel everything brings ya back years, is neat to drive and does everything I ask it too. It is an odd site working in this area so most people got that what the heck is it look on their face, that I find somewhat funny. Thats my story, thanks everyone! Rod. Ok, since it's oneof, here's mine. I think in the end it wasn't really a difficult decision. Mine is the 830 com eh like the one my dad had. It was the first tractor I drove and along with our ford jubilee what I learned to drive on for several years before I was big enough and strong enough to push the clutch on the other tractors. I can remember my dad putting me on it to steer and move it pulling the rock wagon while my older brothers and sisters were picking rocks. I don't know how old I was, maybe 4 or 5 years old or so because I was to young to shift it. My dad would just put it in 6th gear when the wagon was empty so all I had to do was push the gas to move it, then as the wagon got fuller he would come over and shift it down to 4th. I remember in 5th grade I stayed home from school to plow with it and when I got back to school the next day the teachers didn't believe me and made me sit in the office til they got ahold of my mom to confirm it. lol. In spring time that took til she came in the house to make lunch. I also spent many days driving it in front of the 200 case baler while dad stacked the bales on the wagon and following it around the field driving our Jubilee pulling wagons so dad could dump on the go from the 77 combine he had.

This pic is one that my son that is in the picture and I restored. He did most of the work on that one, at least as far as the clean up went. I don't own it anymore, and it broke my heart when I had to sell it, but will some day get another to replace it.

Rod I too have a fond spot for the 1470 tractor, we as dealer's were very impressed with the "70" series lineup when we got our first load in late 1969 870,970 and a 1070 next came a 1470 ( and they were hard to get) the first four or five 1470's we got in were sold when we ordered them and it was 1971 before I got to drive one myself on a demo I was in heaven!! I had always wanted one to farm with and finally in 2001 I was able to buy this one at a auction in Stanford MT, it was to my suprise a "relabeled" 1470 Demonstrator, this is one that was instock at a dealer before the program came out and partly due to the long wait to get a 1470 in let alone a GD or BK model to spur on sales Case allowed a few of the 1470's to be "tagged" as Demo units and recieved the same program as a GD or BK model, for those of you who do not know what that entailed a dealer that had a Golden Demo or Black Knight they were to set up(the most desired model) properly with tires,weights and optinions best suited for their area put break-in hours on it themselves if possible then continue to demo it until it had a minium of 200hrs before they were to sell it at a discounted price (not all followed the 200 hr rule) any way this 1470 I have is one of the even more rare models than even the GD or BK units, I hauled it home myself the aprox 500 miles one way home the next weekend and as soon as I got her home she was serviced and put to work, I perfer to run it over the 2670 I also have and it does pull all of the implements I have very well and uses at least a third less fuel than my 2670 doing the same job, the 29' WC chisel plow behind it was sold new with the first 1470 we sold, my father and I assembled it together in the cold spring of 1970 in front of the shop, sorry for the long winded story, one more thing to note is I have two 1470 this one with 23.1x26 tires and one with 18.4x34 dualls both are grat tractors in my opinion to operate as they give you a real "feel" of your work they will be on my farm until I am gone cnt Tom

I'm going to go with my 1973 desert sunset 1070 Case tractor. I went to a farm sale to buy a Case field cultivator back in March of 1991. This 1070 Case was also on the sale. I didn't buy the field cultivator but I was the lucky bidder on the 1070 Case. I got it for $5,750.00. It had around 3,700 hrs with no cab and was in the heart of green country(maybe why so reasonable?) The trip back home was about 30 miles and I was by myself (No cell phones at that time). So I decided to drive it home. When the sun started to set it really started to get cold. I remember being within 10 miles of home and haveing to stop and warm my hands by the muffler. Smiling with pride the whole trip. I work for the county too, so a lot of my farming is done on weekends and evenings after I get off work. After 2 yrs of using the 1070 with no cab. I went to Elmer's repair and picked out a cab. Thought I had died and went to heaven with AC,heat and a radio. I remember my cousin calling me to help him custom plow 200+ acres of alfalfa ground back in the spring of 1994. He had his 2290 and Case 5x16 plow with harrow and his 1070 Case with JD 4x16 plow with no harrow. I had my 1070 Case with oliver 565 4x16 plow with buster bar harrow. As I was driving over to the field,I was thinking about keeping up and not getting lapped. But to my surprise my 1070 Case and oliver plow lapped his 1070 Case with JD plow. I'm a firm believer that Case and Oliver plows pull easier. I always had to plow the X (turning strip) out of the field because my 1070 Case seemed to hook to the plow better. That's one weekend my 1070 Case proved that it could run with the Big Dogs. It always hooks up well to my 18 ft. Case disc. I use the 1070 Case tractor to do a lot of the haying work. Usually hooked to the New Holland 116 windrower, sometimes on our double rake and to the 8480 Case IH round baler. ALL and ALL a very handy chore tractor also. I also use it on the feed wagon, grinder and the bale processor. We have always owned Case tractors starting with the SC ,DC, 800 diesel,730 gas, 730 dsl,1030 dsl, 970 dsl, 1270 Case, 1370 Case, 2090 Case and 2590 Case. They have all been awesome tractors. I'm hoping this winter to be able to post pictures. Sorry for the long post but I have a lot of good memories with Case tractors and Case equipment. Darrell

Went a fellow north of me near Duluth. A couple of years ago I saw it for sale on craigs list, but I wasn't ready to buy it yet then. Don't know if he sold it or what.

Rod I am sure they did I seem to remember the dealer rep talking about the muffler was a optinion (on non cab'd tractors) at the introduction but became std equipment early in production, here is a early one with "30" series decals for sale in Idaho cnt

I definitely agree with you on the 70 series as they are my favorite series also. As a young fella, I had 2 neighbors across the field from where I grew up that farmed with Case tractors. My dad helped the one neighbor for 25 years every fall doing tillage work. I used to ride along at night with my dad in the neighbor's 2470 moldboard plowing and V-ripping bean stubble ground. I just loved being in that "big" tractor back in the 1970's. As I got older I helped these same 2 neighbor's with Fall fieldwork also. I put many hours hauling grain with a 870, chopped corn stalks with a 1070, disked and chisel plowed with a 1370, Moldboard plowed and disk ripped with a 4890. I didn't have much oppurtunity to drive many 90 series. Yet they are an awesome series too. So just over a month ago my oppurtunity came along to purchase my first Case 1070. I found it 3 miles from home. It is a 1977. She has 56xx hours on her. I fell in love with her as I got to put her to work on my own little farm. Love that sound Case engines make! So anyway here is a picture of her. I look forward to many years of hard work together in the field. Kow Farmer (Kurt)

My Mom's dad was a die hard case man and my Dads dad was a die hard deere man. I have always been around cases, and they are a heavy built, get the job done kind of a tractor. When I was a little kid my dad had a homemade cab on his 900 case, spent a lot of time sitting on that big orange fender looking down the side of that 900. When I was 9 got to go to the field on my own with the 900 case and 5 bottom deere plow and pony. That fall I got to do tillage with the vista G1000 MM, that was my dads big field tractor. The 900's engine was burning oil and was getting worn and that fall while spreading manure the rear axle broke. Dad decided not to fix it and we parted it out to a few neighbors to keep there 930's up and runnning. The next spring dad bought this 1030 case. From then on I was usually in the 1030 and dad would be in the G1000. I spent a lot of time pulling a 14' chisel, mowing hay, baling with an 851 baler and bunching bales, swathing, planting corn and cultivating. Used it for pushing up silage, combining and hauling manure and feeding cows and grinding feed. Just a good all around handy tractor, and although it was a bit cold blooded to start, it was easy on fuel and a joy to operate. I still have it in one of my sheds, but it has a bit of a knock so we don't use it anymore. It is still in good shape otherwise and one of these winters we need to tear into it and see what is going on. Dad still has a 400, 970, 1370 and 4890, but I would have to go with the 1030 as an all time favarite case because it is the one I had the most seat time and just good memories with.

Unfortunately, I don't have my scanner set up yet to provide a picture. My favorite is the 1930 C that my mom's father bought new in 1930. He farmed with it up until 1973 when he had colon surgery and gave it to me at that time. In 1996, I brought it up to Montana from Kansas and gave it a paint job. I can usually start it on the 3rd pull on the crank but since the notches in the crank pulley are worn, it's easier to pull it; 20 feet and it's running.

This is my 1944 LAI that I got a couple of years ago, I'm hoping to get it restored in the next couple of years and am currently gathering the parts, It has factory air brakes and still wears most of its US Army olive drab color. Its one of the favorites in my collection.
