I own IH but have many NH combines all around me.

They are in my mine the second best combine out there. IH being first.

Simple to work on and reliable. At 1900 hours there is alot of life left in that combine. I know of a tr70 that made it to 4500 hours with minor repairs. Not many changes were made from the tr 70"s thru the tr96"s. So parts are available.

If its got the 363 Dorset Ford(i think it was a 2704et) parts are giong to be hard to come by.I seriously doubt if New holland offers any engine parts anymore. You will probably need to go through a marine dealer and even then some things on the marine version may not be the same as the combine.

I am no expert, but have looked at a few new holland combines this fall. It seems that rotor gearboxes and the gearbox that drives the pop up auger are weak spots on the older ones. I've been told to check the pop up gearbox for any free play, and check the rotor gearbox oil, and make sure there are no burn marks, like it had been run low and got hot.

Thanks for the reply"s. The guy is asking 5000 with a 6 row corn head and a 13" grain table. It is a pretty good haul to go look at it but it was used to harvest this year.

i would say no to getting the newholland. had one, lots of trouble with gear boxes.unloading auger belt always wanted to unload when on a sidehill(lot of corn spilled in the field).Broke 2 main threshing shafts $1,100 each.(ouch)hydro went out so the whole thing is going to the scrapper.all this with just 2,500hrs.i bought a 1460IH that now has 6,000hrs 4 seasons ago with minimal problems. just my 2cts worth.
