4255MFD [Europeon?Canadian?] Questions

A fellow from Wisconsin has a 4700 hour 4255 MFWD power shift has had it for 5 years.He sent me pictures and it has pressed steel rear wheels,large metric 38 rears ,larger than normal fronts[18 wide metrics] looks to run uphill.Front has extra lights on a different style weight bracket has different step.I asked about road speed and rear brakes but didnt think it was different than his 4040.I am going to check S.N. and will probably answer my questions.I know of several people looking to buy 40/50/55 series tractors but dont need to buy one thats odd.He doesnt think it has been repainted but I can see a couple places that appear to be primer and looks to possibly wrong color looks gray in color.Hopefully someone will know more than I do.Thanks

Sooooo.................what is so wrong with the tractor if it was shipped back from Europe? It can from Waterloo in the first place.
Do Europeans smell bad or something?
Look in the parts book and order what ever you want from your local JD dealer.
European tractors usually have an escape hatch in the roof, a hand parking brake, full brake/turn/hazard lights.A co-pilot seat in the cab. Sometimes an air compressor to supply trailer air brakes. The European drawbars use a type of pintle hitch. Front wheel fenders usually. Road speed up to 60Kph/38Mph in some countries.

Most JD Waterloo tractors built for European sales have different lighting and 3 pt draft arms plus some other unique features such as license plate/brake lights

Probably when you look at the tractor in person,if it is a European spec tractor, you should see an air compressor up by the thermostat housing (pulling air brake trailers),a hand parking brake, European style trailer plug,a few extra indicator lights on the dash,and it probably has brake lights,along with the headlights on the front. Might want to check the rpm of the 540 pto shaft,it's a six spline shaft but turns at 1000 rpm, an American 540 shaft for a 4255 will bring it down to 540. Basically the same internals,same road speed. Parts are available through Deere, some of the oddball Euro spec parts take a little while to get. I had one I bought used with 5000hrs, and ran it 4000+ hours without any problems. They usually sell $3-7k less than the American version

50 & 55 series are very often exported from this side of the pond, simply due to the high price that is paid for them in the US. To such an extent that we are having to import one from Sweden, to the UK, as we can't find one locally.
