Round Balers

What manufacturer makes a good round baler for both hay and corn stover/stocks? Or, what mfgr and model have you had that worked really well and reliably for you in both hay and corn stover/stocks? Paul

We have a class 46. It makes 4x4 soft core bale,with net wrap. It will bale what ever we can put in it no problems starting or ending. It s done well over 21000 bales in its lifetime and with the automatic chain oilers,we just ordered a new chain this year great baler.bad part not very many people want to part with them.Steve my 2 bits

Dad bought a 567 deere baler this year with the mega wide pickup, we rolled up around 300 bales of corn leaves with it. We did not chop the stalks, we just used a H S 16 wheel v rake and it was mostly leaves with some stalks. It takes about 30' at a time. This baler has a short auger on either side behind the pickup teeth and then has fingers behind the pickup teeth to help it feed into the chamber. It worked perfect, not one problem bale. We have used 851 chain balers in the past, they work fine for everything else except corn stalks, the bale will spin out in the chamber and plug the pickup or it will spit the corn back out the front. The deere 567 also seems to work good in straw, short hay or long hay. It has 20,000 bales on the clock, don't know how many they are good for.

any of the New Holland chain balers will bale most anything you put in front of them...i have a 851 that finally commited suicide after 13 years of hard use...replaced it with a 853 and its just as reliable...plus i only gave $200. for it.

I have ran some models of Vermeer that do alright. I personally think the newer JD balers are hard to beat. I have a JD 567 and a JD 568. They both have worked very well for us. We just finished the cornstalk baling for the year. We made 7689 bales this fall. About 600 of these are for our selves.

You need to give us a little more information to go by. Like how many bales you are going to do??? Plus what price range you want to stay in.

There is no need for me to tell you about a baler that cost 20K and then find out you want to spend less than $2500.

I have a NH 654, I personally love that baler, I bought it new and haven't had a reason to trade it in for something else. It does grass, stalks, bean vines, you name it and I haven't had any issues in years.

Thanks to all of you for the replies. I don't know at this point how much I want to spend. I just finished helping a nieghbor who had back surgery. I did all the round baling of corn stocks with his Case IH, we beleive it to be a re-branded Hesston. I cannot recall the model number right now. Anyway, over the years he has had a lot of trouble with it, hay or stocks. It picks up hay fine but does real poor picking up corn stocks. With a 1066 I had to travel in 2L or 1L and sometimes with the torque back so the pickup would not plug. The windrows were not that big and a lot was left behind. So much was left behind we re-raked again and ran the baler through again. I had two chains jump off the sprockets, one belt twisted for some unknown reason, and the stocks seem to build up in behind the belts, fall down, and plug. Whew. I baled about 40-50 bales and was glad to be done. I would just like to know there are balers out there that work better than that. I am a JD Collector and I am glad to see some good experiences with JD. Thanks. Paul

We have a Deere 335 that makes a 4x4 bale.We bought it new and have baled thousands of bales of both hay and stalks and a 3020 or 2510 handles it easily.I wish it had the wider pickup that many newer balers have and net wrap would also be nice.I am not sure if anyone makes a 4x4 baler with netwrap? In the 17 years we had the baler we have never replaced a bearing,but have replaced drive chains twice and rebuilt the pickup three times(new teeth) the belts are original but they are two years or more past wore out,we had them resized and new splices put it and want new ones for next year.
