I got the loader off my 850 this weekend and ready to pull the engine for a rebuild. This is my first rebuild and I want to make sure I do it right. I'm going to take it to a machine shop and have them check the block and head and if everything is OK will have them install the sleeves. I will be doing the remainder of the work. I will be ordering the sleeves from this site. Looking at Part No. EAF6055D, I noticed that the OD is 4.10 and the 850 is not listed in the model no's. The 851 is listed. Looking at Part No. B3NN6055B, the OD is 4.098 and the 800 series is listed as the model no. I think the only difference is pressed or drop-in. I thought that the 172 engine was the same for the 850 and the 851 so why isn't the 850 listed in the model no's for Part No. EAF6055D. Since I am going to have the machine shop install the sleeves, can I go with Part No. EAF6055D even thought the 850 is not listed in the model no's?

EAF6055D is for the 850 as well. Notice in the application that the "800" is listed. That is the series of tractor which your 850 is. Same for the 820, 840 etc. That is the one you want.

Per the New Holland Parts site, B3NN6055B is for engines after sn 153009, 1958/61 which would include the 851.

Sorry gave some info on the 172 diesel. Here's some corrected info from the New Holland Parts site:
B3NN6055B LINER Sleeve, Cylinder Block, Finished, Prior to S/N 151245, 172", Years: 01/01/1953-12/31/1961

EAF6055D LINER Sleeve, Cylinder Block, Semi-Finished, Prior to S/N 151245, 172", Years: 01/01/1955-12/31/1961

The difference between the two is one is finished and the other semi finished. I would assume one is honed and one not.

They list only one pistion size for the 850. EAF6108F PISTON ASSY Piston, Pin & Retainer Set, Standard, 172" Gas & LPG, Start Year: 01/01/1955

At any rate, it seems you'll be ok with EAF6055D.

Thanks GlenIdaho. That is the information I needed. I'm sure I will have several questions as I progress with this rebuild.
