Bingo, get a later 504 with the larger crank. These blocks also give you the piston cooling oil spray which helps the engine live at much higher HP. Will need the bigger oil pump also. 504 blocks in 20 and 2290 tractors had the small crank like the 451, Rod. |

Have you ever seen a broken crank on a "farm use" small journal that wasn't turned up or abused? |

Thanks guys this is for a pulling tractor. The tractor already dynos out at over 300 with the 451 but I plan on doing more exstensive engine work to get to the 600hp range and I was just worried about the smaller crank taking the extra rpms and heat. So if I find a good crank out of a 15 26,2590 or 4690 it will go right in my block without any machining the block? I would just like to do this the right way the first time. Thanks Jason |

No a large journal crank will not fit your block. Thats what makes them stronger is the larger journals. You just need to find a complete 504 from the models you just posted. This will give you the later screw in injector heads also. Your smaller crank has 2.75 rod journals and 3 inch mains. The larger crank is 3 inch rod and 3.5 mains. Thad |

The engines with the piston oil spray use a higher volume pump. Example 20 and 2290 with a 504 have the small crank and smaller oil pump, 23 and 2590 have large crank high volume pump and oil spray. The 1470 had large crank, no spray and small pump. Early 12 small crank, small pump, no spray. Late 12 had small crank ,BIG pump and spray. Are you confused yet? Early 13 was like the 14. Late 13 all 15,24 26, 23,25, 44, 46 all had big crank, big pump and spray. Rod. |

Hey Rod i didnt think the 1270s ever had piston cooling on them since they were all 451s. But i dont think i ever worked on a very late one either. Thad |

I have a 1470 engine that I have acces to would it be better to find a 504 with the oil spray to take the extra heat or just put the high volume pump in ad call it good? I plan on rebuilding the motor anyhow I not that sure if it will create that much heat in one pass down the track to hurt anything too much. Any input is always helpfull Thanks guys Jason |
