I just got a Deere Stx38 (black deck). It is idling too high with the fuel lever in the low setting. It has the Kohler Command 13 engine. |

if you cannot set static idle down, look for an air leak,or a throttle butterfly bent not allowing throttle to go shut all the way. kinda hard to diagnose something without a little more info |

I just picked it up today. with the Pto engaged it idled the motor down enough for me to cut the lawn. Motor starts without any problems. I will have to pick up a manual though. I will also check the carb butterfly and linkage. |

With that extra info, i would also check governor spring, linkage or governor itself, if it was running away with itself and the PTO slowed it down enough to mow, sounds like ur issue might be governor related...good luck. If u want to.post ur email, i can send u a PDF file of the manual tomorrow. |
