I would like to put a allis 262 motor (the 262 is currently in a gleaner combine) into a wd45, I would like to know if i have to change the rails and will it bolt up to the 45 bell housing? I want to make a pulling tractor. THANKS TOM

It will fit the rails and the bell housing. You will have to change the front out from your old engine because the Gleaner governor is different. It is a basic and simple swap.

Is your 45 a diesel? If so it's pretty straight forward. If it's a gasser then it's a tough conversion.

Kip is right, to put it into a Gas will be a challenge. Will be just as easy to put a V8 in it. But Allis uses adapter plates on their 6 cylinder engines, just like IH does. So you can put them into anything. But a WD 45 has a small bell housing and hence a small flywheel and clutch. A D 17 diesel would be a lot better, can put a 426 in them. Vic

The 262 will fit. If you have a diesel tractor to begin with it goes right in no problems if dont you have to move the radiator and grill out to the end of the frame like the diesels are and make a longer hood or find a diesel hood. As far as the governers im not sure enought to say for sure if they are like the 226 engines you have to change some things over from the 45 block.
