Just bought a Ford 601 tractor. I am trying to identify the year by the serial number. The top number is 601 and the serial number is 4930. What year tractor is this?

Look over to the left under Research & Info. Click on Serial Numbers. Keep clicking until you arrive at Ford 601/701/801/901.

From John Smith's site:
"01" Series tractor serial numbers -
1957 Serial number 1001 - 11996
1958 Serial number 11997 - 58311
1959 Serial number 58312 - 105942
1960 Serial number 105943 - 131426
If you truly have a 601 series tractor and it's got a 4 digit serial number then it's a 1957 tractor. If it's a 5 or 6 digit number and you can only read 4 of them, then we can't help you much.
Another problem is that the top number should not be "601". 601 was a series, with a number of different models, 621, 641, 651, 661, etc. in the series, but there never was a "model 601". That top number should be the model number, not the series number.

If your looking in the right place the top number will NOT be 601 but it would be the model as in 641 or 651 or 661 etc so your missing what the center number really is
