Ford 641 spewin black smoke

1st problem:
Had the carb rebuilt a year ago. Three of four spark plugs pretty tarred up. When increase the throttle it sputters and then revs but spews out a lot of black smoke.
Checked the settings on the carb and believe to be okay. Something internal on the carb? Any ideas?
2nd problem:After running a while and then turn off, wont start again until cool down. Press on the starter switch and get nothing. Bad connection?

First I'd check the spark.
When was the last time you checked/cleaned/gapped/replaced the points?
You may want to replace the plugs too.
Starter switch could be a bad connection.
Its cheap to clean and tighten all the connections. Just takes some time.
Let us know what you find.

Black smoke is too much fuel. Can be carb adjustments or air filter system.

Around this part of the world we have a little bug called the "Dirt Dobber". I've seen these little devils block the whole air cleaner tube with their big dirt nests.
