I did all 4 wheels on my trailer last spring. Ended up running new wire. It was pretty easy once I committed to replacing versus fixing.
Now that its dark early maybe you can see where the wiring harness is grounding out. Should arc to the frame where the chaffed wire is once you have the 12v applied.
Bring the battery to the wheel you"re working on if you have to.
