I am in need of opinions on the best paint for a restoration of 38 RC. Want something that has really good shine and durability. Not going to be put to work other than plow days, and to shows. Also what is the correct colors for that year? I've seen dark grey and light grey with red rims. Trying to get everything back to original. When I stripped it I found orange under multiple layers of grey! Even inside of center support in front of motor, and underside of front support and other hard to reach places. I know it's been painted ( and not all that well) over the years, but was surprised to see orange under everything else. Were there orange RC's in 38? Thanks for any info.

When it left Racine, it was L.C. Grey which CASE still offers in Quarts only. My guess is that it left Racine painted Grey, but was stuck in a Branch, or a Dealer's lot & got re-painted Flambeau sometime after 1939.

I don't think it was LC gray. It was RC gray which is much lighter. Somewhat similar to a Ford gray.

I have had good luck with acrylic enamel from Napa. The last paint I used was acrylic Urethane. It was also really nice to use. I do not use clear coat on my paint jobs.

John, I'm not sure that RC's were painted LC grey; some experts say it was Ford grey.

My head is hung, I goofed. Upon further investigation, & a unaminous consensus of the investigory ruling body associated with such things, it is hearby determined that the RC's were painted a "R.C. Light Grey". I stand to be fined by the Committee, of which costs i will pass along.

Did that include the wheels, rims, and logos?

Late 38 RC had a sunburst grill and unstyed fenders were
painted flambeau red from the factory. No one knows at what
serial number that the switch was made. All records were lost
in a fire for that year. So if your RC has sunburst grill flambeau
red if unstyed LC gray.

Ford NAA grey from a New Holland dealer is about dead on. It is acrylic enamel, good quality, reasonably priced and nice to work with.
