Yesterday I and two friends attended a huge sale near Blue Mound,Kansas..There were two antique combines and 12 antique tractors..We were amazed to see the scrap buyers paying up to $350 a ton for stuff..They got both combines,8 of 12 tractors, several trucks, and lots of implements.

It was a beautiful sunny day and was just perfect for a sale..

1-55 JD combine sold for scrap for $1450..Thats close to $300 a ton..

2-151 McCormick sold for scrap at another farm 1/4th mile east.We were busy paying for stuff so didnt go over until after it sold.

3-570 Cockshutt went to a collector at $1500..Runner up bidder was a scrap buyer..Engine was uncovered and full of water..

4-560 Cockshutt diesel went to a collector at $900..

5-There were (4) E-3 Coops there...This was the best one and a collector got it for $750..My friend was runner-up bidder..The other (3) went for scrap as high as $700 for a 2 ton tractor.

6-E-3 Coop LP sold for $450 for scrap and 5 trees would have had to been cut down to get it out.

7--101 Junior Massey went for scrap at $700..A friend did save the side shields..Another 101 Junior sold for scrap at $750..They wouldnt weigh much over 3000 lbs..

8-FWA 8010 AC with loader sold for $12,500..

9-Nice running 1155 MF needing a clutch sold for $1500...I wish now that I had bid on it..I dont think it went for scrap..

10-4010 JD sold for $4500..

11-An immaculate always shedded 1973 Ford F-600 with 30,732 actual miles sold for $2800..It had 6 new tires..

12-Meanwhile this 1960 IH B-160 sold for scrap for $1500..How can they pay this?

13-Real straight 1972 IH 1210 4x4 6 cyl sold for $1,000..

14-Nice running TD-15 IH with excellent undercarriage sold for $7,000..

15-Non running HD-11 Allis with problems went for scrap at $3300..

16-1956 IH S-160 at the other farm went for scrap..

17-My lone purchase,a M&W turbo kit for a 4010 JD..I got several more pieces bought for it that were in a shed..

18-Whens the last time you saw an Oliver drill..

19-This C Farmall with nearly new rear tires sold for $700..My friend was runner-up bidder..

20-Thats a 44 Massey standard with a huge tree grown thru it..Its probably sat there for 30-40 years,,

Sad all the stuff going to scrappers. I cannot imagine why scrap is so high in your area. Must have a smelter nearby or buyer sells directly to the mill. I am wondering though if he does not part out certain things .... tires, engines, trannies. I know of one in Amarillo TX that takes engines, especially MM 6 cyl. ones and sells them as irrigation pump $$$ engines. The $ from the rest is icing on the cake.....
Ralph in OK.
BTW, picked up a 105 for less than the price of a main tire....lol (pics will follow...)

That F600 is a cherry, and I'd sure like to get ahold of an 1155 in that kind of shape, but for some reason I never come across deals like those. Thanks for the pics and the report Blaine. Sorry to hear that so much of it is to be made into cheap parts, those prices are insane.

Glad someone got the 560 otherwise I would have to make some phone calls begging for the sheet metal off of it for my 570.

Ralph,no smelter close by..These scrap buyers are only paying $175-200 a ton for short iron brought to them..But,they can go to a sale and pay $300-350 a ton for unprepared..

One scrapper bought everything at this sale..He will sell parts off at a pretty good price but sold very little at the sale...After he hauls it off theres no parts sold.

Right after the IH 2 ton sold for scrap for $1500 I told him I had two Loadstar IH"s that each outweighed this one...I told him that I"d deliver them to him for $1500 each and he said he couldnt do that..

Rumor is that they are being subsidized by the government..It wouldnt surprise me any..

I forgot to mention that here, too, scrap brought to the big yard, not smelter, will bring about the same as in your neck of the woods. What I was saying is that the yard owners buying directly will get more at the smelter per ton, and so can pay a little higher prices cutting out the small timer, also by loading up the semi, volume does make a little more profit than smaller loads.
What I was told is that prices rise traditionally in the winter, about November through April.... maybe they are stockpiling, some here in sw OK do.
(I am stockpiling my aluminum cans hoping the pound goes back to .60 from .40 ...LOL)
As far as the subsidies, if anyone does get them it would be the metal industry/smelters, and passing some of it on ...
Ralph in OK.

I used to wonder that same thing. We had a scrapper around here several years ago paying outrageous prices for iron.

Finally got nailed for laundering drug money. It was the easiest way to do it. The clue here is he wouldn't buy anything from an individual.
