I'm fixing to rebuild a ford 8N engine. Have heard that there is a problem with the new style rear main seals that you get with the new rebuild kits. What is the best seal to use?

thanks Howard

You may want to ask this question on the N board. I've not been privy to any discussions about the quailty of the seal, so not sure what seal they're talking about.

However, I personally would favor a neopreme seal with a lip for general main seal service. There likely is a 2 piece Felpro or Victor for this application.

You can use a neoprene seal on the front, but AFIK
the only rear seal is the rope seal you get with the
kit. If you go up to the N board you will get a lot
of suggestions on how to install. I've rebuild two
engines with that seal and had no problems.
