Case 680H wiring issue

I recently traded my bobcat 610 for a case 680H backhoe in really good shape. The key switch is bad and someone disconnected the switch and all gauges, you start it with a push button. The main problem I see and want to fix is that the starter looks to be replaced not too long ago, on top of the starter is the solenoid, it has some part numbers and says 12volts, but the batteries are wired to be 24volts. I would like to know what I can do to fix this, or is this something that is ok? Also, how can I be able to wire back all the lights and gauges to be 12v? Thanks.

Also, can I rewire the batteries to be 12volts instead of 24volts and will 12v be enough to turn over the motor?

I think the 680 is basicallly drive train wise an 830. Our 830 had two batteries hooked together but I never paid any attention to see if the were hooked in series, (24V) or parallel, 12V. I think they were wired parallel and it turned over very good as you had increased amps hours to give it the kick.

I also have a 680H backhoe and the whole machine operates on 24 Volt. I suggest you try to keep everything original if you can. You would not have enough amps to the starter if you feed it 12 volts although if you really want to change it to 12 volts you can probably get such a starter if you check around. The downside with 24 volt is the cost of bulbs etc. I've had mine for 14 years and it's been a very good unit with little downtime. It's a bit thirsty on fuel but it will do a lot of work too.

680H has a 336 (870) engine and industrials were 24 volt like stated above, the "W" series loaders were all 24 volt as well much better cold weather starting cnt

I will leave it 24v, but the starter says 12v on top of the solenoid. Will this be a problem using 24v for a few seconds to start the loader? Can I wire a 12v system from the batteries so I can have a radio and normal lights?

Another issues I'm having with it, is when I got it, it ran good, but as soon as I put 5gal of diesel in it, it wanted to start running rough and wanting to die out. I knew the previous owner of the backhoe, and when he put fuel in it, it did the same thing. He changed fuel filters and it never did it again.
