I have a Ford model 7210 loader which I am in need of rebuilding a lift cylinder. According to one dealer list price of kit is about $50 for a SML36848 kit. Just wondering if these cylinders might also be used on other equipment and if a cross reference might exist with a less expensive alternative. Cylinder starting pouring oil out on down stroke this morning. I know I have seen very similar looking loaders on many different loaders and I would think this cylinder might be common.

$50 is not out of line for an OEM seal kit, especially when you can have it in probably 2 days without any shipping cost if ordered on a daily stock order. Many simple kits are now over $100 buy part number. Easiest way to save $$$ is to take the cylinder to a local hydraulics shop, or tear it down and order components from a place like Hercules. The 7210 loader was made for Ford by Schwartz (SMC) maybe you can source a kit from them.

Try this place. They will have the parts on hand just bring your seals in and they will have them. I use them all the time. Also would take the piston and end cap of the cylinder with you for measuring. Very good people. They will also repair the whole cylinder for you. The even have chrome shafting and can make a new shaft for you. Check them out on the Web. Hope I have helped!

As noted already... the kit price is not out of line AT ALL... at least compared to others that are regularly over 100 from CNH for those Schwartz loaders. You could go to a local hydraulic shop... but they generally want to do the work and that will be over 200.
These cylinders just use standard vee packing and a large o-ring on the gland where it seals against the barrell...
