Let's say for giggles that I bought a certain Super 92. I have never towed a combine backwards. Do the MF work like others for towing? Can I remove the variable speed drive belt and do it? How fast can I go? How far can I reasonably go? The combine is about 3 hours from me by car. |

Don't know about Massey, but Gleaners and others use a splined sleeve to connect the drive axle and transmission. Remove a key/pin/wire and slide the spline off to the side. Hold it there with a hose clamp. I made an A frame hitch to tow one combine, and a steering hitch to tow another. Dolly works fine too. Tractor speeds.... |

Have towed Case combines backwards, no problem. Don't need to take any belts off, just have transmission in neutral. Farthest was 80 miles at 25mph. The big combines get to bouncing if much faster! |

The tires can't handle more than 20mph for a long distance. If the final drives are planetary I would worry about them even if the tranny is disconnected. You will be spinning some gears pretty fast. |

I towed a 72SP home once backwards on a car dolly. Shifter was stuck so I pulled the drive pinions out. |

Even though there been post about dollies today and in the past, and many have towed with them, I prefer to haul. I load my 80s and 90s as well as others in that size(JD40, GB A) on a goose-neck (23+5). If all tires(header up or off) are up loading takes about an hour including chaining, flagging, lighting all by myself (I use a winch remote when steering combine onto GN). And I am not the fastest.
If you don't have a big enough truck or GN, maybe a buddy can help out? If you are near sw Oklahoma, I might be able to help ....
